A site that takes four seconds loses nearly half of its phone visitors. Here is where the seconds come from and what to do about them.
The green PageSpeed zone starts at 90. Below 50 a site loses people before they read anything.
Our pages open in 0.3–1 second because they are built in advance. You can check it yourself in two minutes — here is how.
Someone on a phone does not wait. Every extra second before the first screen takes away a share of visitors — and these are the ones who already clicked your link, the most expensive ones.
Most often, full-size photographs. A shot from a camera weighs four megabytes and occupies a strip the height of your palm on screen. The same frame saved properly weighs a hundred kilobytes, and the eye sees no difference.
The second source is a pile of plugins, each with its own font and script. The third is a background video on the first screen that starts loading before the text appears.
Open PageSpeed Insights, paste the address, look at the Mobile tab. The green zone starts at 90. Below 50 the site is losing people to waiting alone.
| Score | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 90–100 | Green zone | Nothing. Keep it from slipping after edits |
| 50–89 | It opens, but you notice the wait | Compress photos, drop extra plugins |
| 0–49 | Some people leave before the first screen | Rebuild the site instead of buying more ads |
Speed is the one promise about a site a client can verify in two minutes. That is why we name it as a number.
| PageSpeed score | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 90–100 | Green zone. Speed is not costing you enquiries | Nothing. Check once a quarter |
| 50–89 | People wait. Some leave on the second second | Compress images, drop extra scripts |
| below 50 | The site loses people before the first screen | Rebuild: this is not about details |
Speed depends on what the site is built with and where it is hosted.
